Obama And Hillary: A False Unity
Obama still has a problem with Democrat deserters

During the primary fight, before the Rules Committee handed the nomination to Obama, poll after poll found that a significant number of Democrats would vote for Senator McCain in November if Obama was the nominee.
The Hillary/Obama Unity charade didn't seem to do much to change Obama's deserter problem:
Obama still has a problem with Democrat deserters. Report after report about the Hillary/Obama Unity charade details a continued lack of unity within the Democrats' ranks:
Miller wasn't buying Clinton's plea for unity in Unity. “Obama is a fraud, and I'm going to vote for John McCain, the first time I've ever voted for a Republican.” She told me “the Democratic Party is a house divided. It's not over" and that she wouldn't rest until "Hillary and Hillary's supporters have their voices heard.” (Portsmouth Herald, June 28, 2008)
“I don't believe he's the right person for the job,” said Thomas, 49, of Merrimack, N.H., who showed up at yesterday's event wearing a Clinton campaign button. “Even in this speech it's promises, promises, promises. Realistically, how does he think he’s going to make all these changes?” (Valley News, June 28, 2008)
Read on, there is more.
“I’m not supporting Obama,” the Merrimack small business owner said. “I don’t think he’s vetted. I don’t think he’s experienced enough.” (CBS News, June 28, 2008)
Malka Yaacobi, a musician from Cambridge, Massachusetts, said that she voted for Clinton in the primaries, and Obama still did not sit right with her. “I will not say I’ll vote for him,” she said. “ …I don’t trust him and he doesn’t have experience.” (CBS News, June 28, 2008)
"I think she has to say that right now, because I think what’s going on right now is politics," Lewis said. "This is the candidate that won the swing states," she said, pointing to a Hillary Clinton for President sign. "This is the candidate that won the large states, and she has the popular vote! If the vote were taken today, hands down, Hillary Clinton would be the delegate winner." (ABC News, June 28, 2008)
Eileen Quill, a 64-year-old retired teacher from nearby Sunapee who had supported Clinton, said: "I think she's usually a wonderful public speaker, and so is he, but she looked a little stiff and the whole thing wasn't entirely comfortable." (Associated Press, June 28, 2008)
Not everyone received the unity memo, however. Carmella Lewis of Denver chanted “Hillary” while Mr. Obama spoke, smirked throughout his remarks and then stuffed her ears with scrunched-up tissue. “I can’t listen to him,” Ms. Lewis said. “No way are we voting for Obama. We’re all voting for McCain.” (New York Times, June 28, 2008)
One Clinton voter who was not impressed was Carmella Lewis, a Clinton delegate from Denver. Lewis traveled to Unity to see her candidate one last time, and jeered throughout the event, while waving an autographed Clinton campaign sign. At one point while Obama was speaking, she plugged her ears with tissue paper. "I can't stand him," she said. "I'm either not voting, or I'm voting for John McCain." (Washington Post, June 28, 2008)
Yes, Obama still has a problem with Democrat deserters. As I posted yesterday, a new Associated Press-Yahoo News poll finds that only 53 percent of Hillary supporters support Obama. Nearly one quarter of those who backed Hillary say they will vote for John McCain:
Twenty-three percent of Clinton's backers picked Republican John McCain over Obama. Of the rest, 16 percent were undecided, 5 percent were for independent candidate Ralph Nader and 3 percent said someone else.
Definitely a false unity.

SEEMS to stand for, he reminds me of a rock group that a record label would create and mold from the untalented yet visually appealing. The group would lip sync (teleprompt in the case of OB)the talent of never-seen performers. It's only a matter of time before the life support system of this charade fails and leaves the performer without the special effects and the audience hears the real squeaking lightweight that was masked by the reverb and signal processing. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Blame it on the Rain, yeah yeah

There are always cross-overs. Something like 12% of self-identified Democrats voted for President Bush in 2004. Most of these folks will come back to the fold, and Senator Obama's voter registration drive (coupled with the new registrations during the primary season) should be significant.
Whether or not you want these things to be true, whether or not you like the fact that I'm saying them here, only a fool ignores a threat on the horizon. The Obama camp isn't blind the to the problem, and while they are trying to bring new people to the voting booth, they are trying to bring back the stragglers they can. These things take time. A lot of Senator McCain's supporters swore they'd never vote for Governor Bush. Most of them did.
Enjoy the shadenfreude, by all means, but I would caution you against assuming that a problem in June translates to a problem in November. It might, but then again it might not.
An awful lot can happen between June and November that can change a June "I'll never..." to a November "my previous statements are inoperative" - some predictable, and some not. In today's world, even one slip-up could sink a campaign.
However, I do think that some Hillary-supporting Democrats are so appalled at how far to the left Obama is plus his cluelessness of foreign affairs plus his inexperience that they may find a President McCain with a Democratic Congress to check him more tolerable than a President Obama with no effective Congressional check. How large, of course, is the key unknown.
Nonetheless, you've certainly got a point that when one comes to that moment of marking a ballot, quite a few Democrats won't be able to put their mark under "Republican" no matter what they might say or think in their minds. Vice-versa is also true, but right now there are more registered D's than R's.
On the Republican side, of course, Barr could be a thorn in the side if he runs by giving disaffected voters who can't vote for Obama an alternative to voting for McCain.
Which is another way of saying that, barring some campaign disaster, this Presidential election will hinge on the "independent" voters.
Maybe they will. The funny thing is while I am certain it will be painful in the short term, it may be best in the long term. The party has been giving short shrift to the libertarian side. It has also been giving even shorter shrift to those that want government and taxes to shrink.

The onus will be on him. If he makes a show of refusing the donation, he'll remind some of his potential voters what an equine's hind he can sometimes be.
"stragglers" Gee, thanks for the insult, Pritcher. Please, by all means, keep it up! It's arrogant Obama supporters such as yourself that will continue to drive up the numbers of PUMAs. More, more, more!
I have to wonder why you are here at this site? Do you think you are going to "pursuade" people to change their political opinions? Make everyone here come to their senses and embrace the Obamassiah? Can you say "arrogance."
Think I'll head over to the Daily Koz and try to annoy people. Not!
minds on this site to Obama he is indeed sipping from the Koolaid that Obama is serving.
Freedom of Religion NOT Freedom from Religion
Hillary should demand Obama denounce the following statement made by his National Campaign Co-Chair, Jesse Jackson, Jr. to the Washington Post regarding Hillary:
"The natural reminder here is O.J. [Simpson] -- how does an African American candidate attack a white woman?"
Obama is the one who attended a racist church for 20 years. Obama got married in that church and had his children attend and baptized in that church.
Obama is the one who wrote in his autobiography, Dreams of My Father: A Story of Race & Inheritance, "That's just how white folks will do you."
Obama is the one who referred to his grandmother as a "typical white person."
Obama associated with Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, Bill Ayers, Father Michael Pflger and Rashid Khalidi.
Castro, Gaddafi, Kim Jong, and Hugo Chavez have all voiced support for Obama.
How could anyone who has allegiance to America or believes in equality for all support Obama?
The real racist is Obama, as are his followers.
I am shocked by the treatment our best two-term president endured during this campaign. First of all Bill Clinton faced impeachment over having sex with an intern and George Bush has gotten away with murder.
Second, Bill was absolutely right in stating what the rest of felt at the time. Obama didn't have a chance in hell to be the president of the United States. Obama's campaign was a fantasy at the time Bill said that.
Third, the fact that African Americans turned on him after being called racist over one comment, forgetting all he had done for blacks in his two-term presidency. I want to know who is racist when the vote is 92% to 8% for Obama.
Fourth, the treatment of the First Lady just because she was a women really brought out the treatment of women in general.
Fifth, what they both had to endure when Barack Obama claimed victory and acting like the nominee before he was declared the nominee.
Sixth, every time I said "gotcha" when shocking stories came out. It turned out he was the chosen one and the media did everything in their power to say we will report only the bad about the Clintons and ignore anything about Obama except for Fox News.
Seventh, to have Hillary lose the nomination over half votes and giving delegates to someone who wasn't on the ballot has made many of us feel like this is a repeat of the 2000 and 2004 elections.
Eight, People who wouldn't be where they are if it weren't for the Clintons putting them in their administration turning on them the way they did in endorsing someone with no experience at all.
No wonder women are furious. We had to endure the constant misogyny of Hillary. We also were angry at women pundits who think attacking women make them one of the boys was unbelievable.
The way the media picked the nominee has got us all furious. Feeling like our votes were just an exercise and nothing more is not a good feeling in a Democracy.
Being from Arizona, I know that McCain is a crook. Our own governor was impeached for the very same acts. This man is the worst choice for many reasons. McCain does not deserve to be the president of this United States. McCain does not deserve an "ancient history".
Many women and men who voted for Hillary in the primaries are planning on demanding that Hillary be on the first ballot at the convention. If that does not happen things could get very ugly in Denver. It won't be a repeat of '68 but what happens after the convention is going to be history making in the way Hillary voters cast their votes.
Many Hillary Clinton voters really feel that she is being forced to back Obama but secretly want us to carry on to Denver. With the "Million Voter March" being planned in all 50 states our voices will be heard.
go to Denver, we'll be right there in spirit with you just begging you to go all medieval on their sorry a**es. Ya'll just get as flat out ugly as you can, because, yes, you can.
When hillary gets elected...who will be VP
I didnt know McCain was a crook?...what did he do?

A great deal of what you are saying is soemthing I think many of us can agree with. While we have some obvious disagreements, I think the interests we hold in common are even more so.
What can we do for you?

Friday I was Laughing out loud at Rush while he was describing Hillary standing behind Obama at the Unity gathering, come to think of it, the transcript is probably on the site all weekend...Just another Excrement Sandwich to choke down...she must love politics...still laughing
