Hey Tommy, What Christmas Gifts Do You Approve Of?

OK, it’s official–I’ve had enough.  This whole bruhaha started when former Mike Huckabee campaign chair, Chip Saltsman, gave his staff members, as a private Christmas gift,  a CD of political parodies from the Rush Limbaugh show, written and performed by Paul Shanklin.  Because the CD had one track (out of 41 tracks) on it titled “Barack The Magic Negro”, Saltsman promptly was called a “racist” by the MSM, the lefty blogs, and by some members of the RNC.   In fact, AOL Political Machine blogger, Tommy Christopher, has stated in a column that Chip Saltsman has “given the gift of racism” and that our own Erick Erickson has “presented an outright defense of the racist song”.  Here is Erick’s response to Tommy.  However, now that I have had a chance to digest this whole exercise in silliness, I would like the opportunity to address Tommy Christopher myself.   So, here goes:

Dear Tommy,

This has gotten a tad ridiculous. For starters, as I’ve previously stated, Chip Saltsman gave this CD as a private gift. It had 41 tracks on it and Saltsman  probably forgot that “Barack The Magic Negro” was even on the CD.

Second of all, the song was a parody of a column by an African-American LA Times reporter, David Ehrenstein, in which he referred to Obama as a “Magic Negro” in the title. I happen to think that Erhenstein’s column was tad offensive and stupid; however, I had no problem with Rush making a parody of Erhenstein’s column. But, what’s really mind boggling to me, is that neither the original column, nor the parody by Rush, generated much outrage at the time. However, now, some Republican official (Chip Saltsman) giving a CD that contains the Shanklin parody of the Ehrenstein column (along with 40 other tracks) is somehow way out of bounds? Gimme a break. This is insane!

(Linked below is the Erhenstein column, along with the words to the Shanklin parody.  Anyone with an IQ above 70, that reads both the Erhenstein column and the song lyrics, can clearly see that the Shanklin song is simply a parody of the Erhenstein column, and is mocking Al Sharpton–it is not a deliberate attempt to be racist towards President-elect Obama.)

Third of all, Tommy, are everyone’s Christmas gifts, from now on out, going to undergo this much scrutiny (or just conservative’s gifts), because I didn’t get the memo. Like say, for instance, can a liberal politician give his friends a subscription to The New Yorker, or would that be considered racist because The New Yorker did have a cover several months ago that some people thought was offensive (even though they were just trying to PARODY the whole “Obama is a secret Muslim” nonsense)? Can I give someone a DVD of Jon Stewart’s parodies, even though he did have one with a character called “The Race Genie” making fun of Bob Herbert falsely accusing the McCain campaign of racism (with the “Paris and Britney ads”) and of Obama with his “Dollar bills” comment–or would I be called a “racist” if I tried to run for office later?  My mom and my step-dad love Jon Stewart, and I was thinking of giving them some Daily Show DVDs next year, but maybe I should think twice about it.  Oh, and can I give my friends a DVD of Saturday Night Live parodies, even though one of the parodies shows Al Sharpton getting shocked by a dog collar, or would someone call me a “racist” for that if I tried to run for office later?  I already own a bunch of DVDs of SNL parodies, but maybe I should get rid of them.   Anyway, Tommy, can you please give me your address so that I can mail you my list of Christmas gifts next year before I send them out, so that I might not offend your tender sensibilities and have you accuse me of “giving the gift of racism”?

(Linked below is a picture of The New Yorker cover discussed above, along with two embeds of the Jon Stewart video and the SNL video.  Also, I have a link to a diary that I wrote about Bob Herbert falsely accusing the McCain campaign of racism that has embeds of his embarrassing performance on Morning Joe when he first brings up the “phallic symbols”).

And finally, Tommy, I just thought of one other thing.  Barack Obama publicly admitted to having Ludacris on his iPod, and Ludacris even wrote an extremely offensive song calling Hillary a b***h and saying that John McCain should be paralyzed, and we’re obsessing about “Barack the Magic Negro”? Please! Obama was a presidential candidate and is, now, the President-elect (not some party official), and he admitted to listening to a guy who regularly uses the words “b***h”, and “ho” to refer to women, not to mention, the “n-word”–and that’s OK. However, Chip Saltsman (a party official–not a presidential candidate) privately gives his friends a Paul Shanklin CD (Shanklin is not even in the same ballpark as Ludacris) with one track making fun of an offensive column, and all hell breaks loose?! The hypocrisy of this whole situation makes my head want to explode. I can’t believe that we’ve even been suckered into playing along with this.  Oh, and on a side note, can you all even imagine what would have happened if Saltsman had given his staff members a Ludacris CD, instead of a Shanklin CD, or had called Ludacris a “great talent” like Obama did?  Saltsman would have been read the riot act, but I digress.

(Linked below are two columns about Obama’s relationship with Ludacris.  The Jake Tapper column, which is the first link, even has the words to the infamous Ludacris song (as well as a link to the Youtube video of the song) that was written in honor of Obama’s White House run.)

You know Tommy, come to think of it, I don’t think that I want your address after all.  I’ve decided, after much thought and careful consideration, that I should be able to give my friends and family members whatever they want for Christmas without worrying about what some self-righteous, judgemental, race-baiting, weasel thinks.  Tommy, write it down, take a picture, do whatever floats your boat–I DON”T CARE!  If one of my friends happens to want a New Yorker subscription, then I will get it for him.  If my parents want Jon Stewart DVDs, then I will buy them some.  If my husband wants SNL DVDs, then I will buy him some.  And yes, if some of my friends and co-workers happen to want a Paul Shanklin CD for Christmas, then I will give it to them (even though I’m not a regular Rush listener), because I buy Christmas gifts to give my friends and family members some joy and to make them happy Tommy, not to win your–or anyone else’s–approval.  By the way, I hope that you had a Merry Christmas.

Sincerely, Susannah

PS–Barack Obama would probably never find himself in the same situation as Chip Saltsman, because he doesn’t even give Christmas or birthday gifts to his own daughters.

2008: The Year of Great Humility

From the diaries, by Erick.

As I was thinking about looking back at 2008 and all of the events that have gone on around the world this year, one word came to mind: humility.  Bear with me while I explain this, because it might be easy to miss what I’m saying.  When I say “humility,” I’m not thinking about how those the world watched most this year exhibited great humility.  Instead, I am using this term in the sense that what the world watched was some of the most notoriously powerful, prestigious, glamorous and notable people were humbled, one after another.  So, I believe 2008 should be known as the “Year of Great Humility,” where so many people became too big for their britches to the point where the year will mark a time of fundamental change in the way many components of our world and society function.  Let’s look at how the most changing and humbling events unfolded.

First, there is the obvious example, which relates to the unfolding changes in the global financial markets.  You see, I don’t believe the challenges the US and global economies are facing are just a function of general business cycles or economic downturns.  At one point, I did; I even held out as long as possible in admitting we were actually in a recession.  I, like many Americans, either just didn’t want to believe it or was missing the bright red lights flashing in front of my face.  Well, there comes a point where the lights don’t do enough, and you end up just crashing into the brick wall that the lights were meant to prevent you from hitting in the first place.  This “crash” marks the year’s most significant humbling.

Within this event, there were many examples and instances of specific humbling events.  Let’s look at Wall Street.  For the past few years, we have watched young professionals and recent college grads flock to the world of investment banking as a ticket to making more money than they ever imagined in their young professional lives.  We saw kids, not so far removed from shopping in the kids section at Brooks Brothers, making annual bonuses in the six figure range.  It wasn’t uncommon to walk into what were considered NYC “hotspots” only to find all of the tables filled with young barefaced chaps outfitted in Hickey Freeman and Farragamo loafers, enjoying expensive bottle service until the sun came up.

Now, fastforward to today.  All of the I-bankers aren’t gone, but if  you’re looking for them in clubs on Saturday nights, it is doubtful you’ll find anything except remnants of clothing where the previous wearers were busting at the seems of their well-tailored, custom-made britches. If folks in this sector were actually able to keep their jobs, you can be certain any glamour they might have experienced previously is now replaced by extreme competition that they’ve turned to in efforts to prove themselves to superiors (who in turn are also working to save their careers), so that they aren’t included in any of the tens of thousands of Wall Street jobs that are being cut this year.  In 2007 and going into 2008, investment banking jobs were the “celebrity of the business world” positions, reserved for the who’s who of the Ivy League system.  Today, these folks have been demoted to Excel Monkeys fighting like apes to keep their jobs and bonuses coming, even if it means doing rails off their cubicle desk at 3:00 am to continue striving for some resemblence of a real deal that can get them positive attention amongst their Managing Directors.

Another notable group of humblings taking place in 2008 were the executives managing these firms that are now cutting young analysts and associates left and right, or as every other ad on XM Radio refers to them, the “Wall Street Fat Cats.”  Earlier in the year, I was out to defend executives at financial firms, with the argument that they are just trying to meet earnings expectations living from quarter-to-quarter, so what can we possibly expect of them?  Well, I can tell you we should expect much more than we got.

While the modern financial system as we know it was literally crumbling right before our eyes, many heads of the most popular Wall Street firms were attempting to position themselves for one thing:  to save their own hides.  We saw this even today, as Merril Lynch CEO John Thain is still battling for his approx $10mm bonus for the alleged work he did on the BofA deal.  Now, let me just say that I am all for companies compensating their employees appropriately and I also understand that executives’ compensation is based on performance, which in turn, relate to total company revenues.  So, if the company does well, theoretically, the C-suite should be compensated adequately.  So, the fact that many CEO’s make more in their salaries than the GDP of some small countries really doesn’t bother me; however, the caveat here is that when companies are struggling to stay alive in the sector being butchered on a daily basis, I don’t think $10mm needs to go anywhere except back into the company.  Also, let me say that John Thain doesn’t need the $10mm bonus.  In fact, he really doesn’t need any compensation this year, because 1) he has been a part of the problem on the Street for years; and, 2) the Street has been very good to him, allowing him to make hundreds of millions of dollars in his career.  Needless to say, he isn’t hurting, so maybe the best thing to do in this situation is to just walk away.

Nevertheless, we’re seeing executives in some of the world’s largest and once considered most powerful firms begging for their salaries and bonuses.  For some, it has been much worse, as criminal investigations have run rampant this year, focused on the negligence of Wall Street managers that has contributed to our markets’ suffering.  Simply put, while the economy has been looking for relief, too many CEO’s were more than accepting of poor risk management practices and crisis prevention tactics.  The credit rating agencies are in this boat too, as the incestuous inter-linking of Wall Street’s power players, in all their ineptitude, ultimately allowed us to get where we are today.

This example leads us into our next sighting of extreme humility, which relates to the fund managers, who’s britches have long been too small for their exploding egos and pride.  I really enjoy the popular blog Cityfile, because you can get a lot of interesting background information on some of the world’s richest and most successful hedge fund managers.  As I have found myself reading through this information, I grew more and more disgusted with the image that “hedge funders” have put out into society with their actions.  This is another group that I have defended, not the least of which because I myself manage my own investment fund, although I certainly don’t consider myself a hedge fund manager.  But, the more I have learned about the so-called “leaders” of this market niche, the more I learn about where I want my money to go and more importantly not to go.

The question I have found myself asking very often when talking or reading about popular fund managers is when is it enough?  How many billions will it take for them to be satisfied?  How many homes in the Hamptons and on the Vineyard do they really need?  Is it totally imperative to have a G-IV for both you and  your wife, so that you can travel to your home in Aspen and the yacht off Nice at the same time?  Seriously?

Sure, this is the free market and people can do with their wealth what they please - trust me, I understand that better than anyone and I don’t think anyone should apologize for their success or wealth - but I still ask why.

Well, it seems some of it (emphasis on some) is coming full circle.  In recent weeks and indeed in the past year, we have seen some of the most successful hedge funds shut their doors.  Practically all of the major institutionally-backed funds have restricted capital redemptions.  And, the number of funds that are not down more than 10% I can probably count on both hands.  Funds that boasted returns of 40%, 70%, 100% and even 400% in the past five years, are now realizing what it feels like to issue quarterly statements to their LP’s covered in red and numbers in pesty parentheses.

As previously stated, some of these funds have shut down operations completely.  I think the New York Times story from a few months ago about former fund manager John Devaney sums up this situation best.

One by one, John Devaney sold his treasures, hoping to forestall what was in the end inevitable. He sold his Renoir and his Gulfstream, his home and his helicopter. Even his cherished yacht — gone.

Devaney, whose fund made bets on the risky mortgages that this financial crisis was built on, ultimately called it quits earlier this year, which in looking back was probably about two years or so after he should have shut everything down.  This also exhibits why the humbling of the world’s most pompous hedge fund managers is so sweet for the little guys like me, because these guys just didn’t know when to call it quits.  Every piece of data in the world was telling them to back out, even before the losses came in.  When the declines started to build, they attempted to dig their way out, totally forgetting that the only way to really dig yourself out of a hole is to just stop digging.

And finally, perhaps the sweetest humbling of all relates to all of the too-big-for-their-britches politicians who right now are sitting in their homes, no doubt sipping on their seventh scotch since 7:00 pm, wondering what in the world happened, and when was it exactly when things took a turn.  The best example of a fallen from grace political figure this year for people in the financial sector (like me) is without a doubt former-New York Governor Elliot Spitzer, who left office in disgrace last summer after being exposed as a number one client of a “high-class” (whatever that means) call girl.

There are two reasons Spitzer’s scandal is so sweet:  first, watching any politician fall from grace due to their own stupidity is enough to bring a smile to the common American; and, second, Spitzer was/is one of the most hated men on Wall Street for the unjust attacks that he made for years against various companies and his fight for increased regulation of the financial markets.  He was once known as the King of Wall Street out to crack down on Enron-esque corruption, only to be the eventual target of corruption investigations and eventually leaving office in disgrace.  Today, he rightfully exists as the laughing stock of New York, where he will no doubt remain for the rest of his life.

The other political humbling that is so sweet in 2008 is actually still unfolding, because it came out literally days ago.  Yesterday, I briefly commented on the situation where Illinois Governor Dan Blagojevich ran a “pay-to-play” ring while trying to fill President-elect Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat.  As I previously said, I don’t think this will hurt Obama in the long-run, but I can’t help but wonder, along with many Obama supporters, if whether or not this could be a sign of more things to come from the candidate who no one cared what his background really was, except that he was different from George W. Bush.  This is also so sweet, because of the prideful audacity that has eminated from the Obama-Biden campaign and transition team over the past few months.  Not only did the idiotic Blagojevich get humbled (and indeed still is as we speak), but this whole event has been critical in bringing Democrats back down to reality.  The fact that Mr. Obama is realizing it’s a lot harder running the world’s superpower than he originally thought also makes it humbling for the Democrats, as well as the fact that he is gradually learning that it will be physically impossible to follow through on many of his campaign promises.  Barack Obama understands that American voters grow impatient very fast, as we saw with President Bush, so trying to find a way to deliver on his promises, rescue the country from a major economic crisis and two wars, along with distancing himself from a legitimate Chicago-style scandal will all be plenty challenging for him.

And finally, I can’t speak about humblings without offering some criticisms of my own Party, because the GOP is in need of a little humility just as much as the Democrats are.  Further, my criticisms of politicians and their need of humility applies to those on both sides of the aisle who have fallen short of their duties.  Indeed, many Republicans have disappointed me this year, just as much, if not more than many of the Democrats.  I have come across more Republicans in the past year who I am convinced are unfit to serve in office, to the point that I welcome the re-creation of the Republican Party that will be inevitable if we ever want to regain control of Congress and the White House.  Further, I am looking forward to the few new faces that will be around in Washington next year, such as the two newest GOP Members from Louisiana, including John Fleming and Joseph Cao.  Dr. Fleming is replacing a personal friend of our’s and great Congressman, Jim McCrery, who is retiring this year, while Congressman-elect Cao is replacing another humbled and disgraced politician, William Jefferson who lost amidst fighting federal corruption and bribery charges.

Ultimately, the list of humblings taking place in 2008 could go on and on.  Furthermore, I have no doubt that the trend will continue in 2009 and beyond, but I am confident that the changes taking place this year will mark considerable evolution of the many facets of American society, not to mention the way many of the world’s most powerful individuals manage their lives.

I hope that 2009 marks a time of re-emergence and growth, rather than the inevitable fall that humility initially causes.  But, the thing about humility is that once an individual or group is humbled, they can pick up their jaws off the floor and begin to rebuild stronger than ever before.  I am hoping this is how America responds next year, including the economy, the financial markets, politicians and individual stakeholders in this country’s well being.  Whatever we do, we should all take the humility experienced this year as an extremely valuable lesson on things to do and not to do going forward, which willhopefully ultimately make this country stronger than ever.

Who BlahGo (IL-Gov) should appoint to US Senate NOW, and why they should accept? Plus, Special Election, Mike Ditka, Special Prosecutor, and more… [UPDATE]

In this Article, The Blagojevich ordeal basics, following the Obama connections, Chicago thug Politics, the need for a Special Election, Mike Ditka, who should Blagojevich appoint IMMEDIATELY regardless of this controversy (before he is stripped of authority to do so), and more… (now including updates: “Burris appointment” and “Harry Reid right for the wrong reasons” as well as, in the be careful what you wish for and how you argue the case in/for, “Blago Impeachment under ‘Fit To Serve’ concerns” and “Campaign contributions versus Quid Pro Quo conspiracy” thoughts/concerns [see comments section])

The IL Gov arrested in corruption scandal broke early yesterday (Tue 12/09) and we early morning bloggers got immediately to commencing the discussion (I’ll provide as many cross-references to those discussions links as possible here in this blog). Yesterday afternoon I already started saying What did Obama know and when did he know it? … The need for a Special Prosecutor, because after all it is a “serious set of circumstances” and any allegations, or even implications, “demand we look into this matter.” I say that, specifically, because you (may or may not) remember how the Democrats always ask the General Public to get behind them in the need to invoke Special Prosecutors to investigate anything/everything that involves Republicans, whether a Republican President is involved OR NOT!

So, DEMOCRATS, let a Special Prosecutor look into this matter and make sure your Radical-Elect isn’t involved. We suspect, and evidence is starting to surface to back up the notion, that Obama is already lying (see Moe’s: Apparently Axelrod “misspoke”) Diary, or listen to Rush and/or Hannity over the next few days (as the “soundbites” of Oblahblah are already being played) about how Obama DID meet with BlahGo about his replacement! I also joked that soon we’ll be hearing from Oblahblah that BlahGo is just another ‘guy in the neighborhood’ and how there are not enough Buses in IL for all the people Obambam will now have to throw under them. Like he had to do with Wright, Ayers, Rezco, etc…

We’ll get to WHO SHOULD BE APPOINTED to the seat IMMEDIATELY, but next let’s look at the continued news/potential. Immediately after the news broke over BlahGo (yes, that is not how the beginning of his name is spelled, but it goes better this way with Oblahblah’s nickname), we at RS began the discussions of the need for a Special Election, the chorus of which began to resonate across the country (even in IL) soon there-after. Frankly, IMHO, WE AT RS should take the credit for that. ;-) Deserving or not - what the heck! I also started a plea to any/all Republicans listening (er, reading) to attempt to recruit Mike Ditka (Chicago Tribune: 2004: Ditka punts on Senate run) again. Amidst the countless blogs on this topic, I contended Ditka (had he run) may have SAVED US THE AGONY OF OBAMBAM! Perhaps that notion will help to convince him to step up now.

Should a Special Election take place to replace Obama, the Issues (RS: 2008 Election Issues recap) may matter much less than the “CHARACTER” issue (Finally, it may resonate) and Ditka’s celebrity, integrity, popularity, etc… may lift him to victory as the people of IL look to distance themselves (we can “HOPE”) from all the IL Politicians and the corruption that runs deep and wide. A “standard” Republican candidate, IMO, WILL NOT CUT IT!

As for who could/would/should BlahGo attempt to appoint to Obambam’s empty Senate seat and take it?!?! I have several options. If Blagojevich (which appropriately sounds like a Russian Mafia figure name) wants to still boldly go forth with his appointment process out of spite, and I greatly encourage him to do so. ;-) Blagojevich has the following potential options, and the following folks should seriously consider accepting the post for the short time they would get to Office before being voted out in the next election cycle.

Good tease? hope so, ;-) because before I name them… Why should a potential appointee say Yes? Simple…. they (these folks otherwise) are relegated to obscurity anyway, and here is there ONLY chance to actually make a splash in national US Politics…

A great name would be Tony Rezco, because Rezco is the 1 (one) degree of separation between Obama and Blagojevich. Obvious trouble would arise from that name, the first of which being his convictions (we mean “convictions” as in “found guilty” of Criminal charges, not personal convictions, but that is nothing an Obama Pardon couldn’t fix) and the MSM begins its attempts to distance the Blagojevich to Rezco to Obama linkage..

Seriously though…

First, Kathy Cummings of the Green Party (NOTE: Green Party statement on arrest of Blagojevich) candidate. Here is a chance for BlahGo to appeal to Ralph Nader (deep pockets for eventual pay-back) by appointing a Green Party candidate and putting in place someone that will caucus with the Democrats. Since BlahGo is so bold and undoubtedly feels he’ll escape all charges, he’ll have the seat ready and waiting for him to run for.

Next, there has to be an up and coming, and eager to make a splash, Socialist Party candidate. In an area full of “Progressives” that are assured of getting Democrats elected, many must be “unhappy” with the degree to which the Socialist… er… “Progressive” agenda is not advanced quickly enough and would lend themselves to the Chicago Socialist Party as an alternative.

What about Libertarian Party candidate Jerry Kohn (from the 2004 election for IL US Senate).

Also running for the seat in 2004 was Independent candidate Al Franzen (Franzen snubbed, not Senate Debate invite).

Then, of course, there are the fun suggestions… like asking Al Franken to move to IL to be appointed. How about Obama’s original opponent for the seat Alan Keyes (which might drive both sides of the aisle crazy, especially if Franken picks up the MN win - could you imagine Franken and Keyes facing off in a Senate debate)?

Lastly, and beyond all these immediate/current concerns, will everyone learn the Lesson!?!? ALL States should amend Laws/Constitutions to REQUIRE a Special Election in these cases to avoid any potential for corruption. There is an alternative, and the one that I PREFER is, by letting a State Legislative body make the selection - WITHOUT GOVERNOR APPROVAL OR VETO! If you want to save the CO$T$ of a Special Election, let names be entered into nomination into a States’ Senate body, deliberate, and let the States’ Senate make the final appointment. You will have an honest/open discussion and vetting of anyone that gets promoted to the US Senate from any State in these situations then. Another reason why Illinois especially needs to let IL Senate decide (permanent change to their process) is because if a Special Election is held we know record number of Dead people in IL will come out to vote for the Democrat in the Special Election!!

[Update - Sunday 12/14 - after-thoughts]
I have held this questions since day 1 that it became a need for THE PEOPLE OF IL TO REPLACE ITS SENATOR SEAT!?!?!

It is up to the people (and its processes) to determine… Obama has LEFT the Senate seat for his own PERSONAL Political POWER GRAB, not for the betterment of the State of Illinois…. How they aren’t Ill-annoyed at this yet is beyond me… WHO CARES WHAT OBAMA THINKS… It was NOT Obama’s Senate Seat… it was/is a US Senate seat belonging to the People and State of Illinois that Obama happened to hoodwink people into electing him to so he could launch a Presidential bid and Oblahblah should have ZERO say in it being filled!

[UPDATE:] BURRIS APPOINTMENT Dec 30, 2008 CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: Burris appointed by Blagojevich

So BRAVO BLAGO…. for playing his fellow Democrat Fools for the Fools they are…..

Blago has done EXACTLY what I said he should do (in this blogs original text) in appointing a lame duck Democrat that isn’t otherwise going anywhere in Politics and/or the Democrat Party…..

While Blago will probably be Impeached… He is still the sitting Governor and has the RIGHT AND OBLIGATION (as Blago himself has correctly pointed out) to make the appointment to the US Senate. Clinton WAS Impeached, but none of his “appointments” or anything he ever did thereafter was EVER questioned as “legitimate” by the Left and MSM allies!!!!

So… BRAVO BLAGO for playing this PERFECTLY and exposing the SHAM between this and the MN situation….

[UPDATE:] HARRY REID, HAS IT RIGHT FOR THE WRONG REASONS Jan 5, 2009 CHICAGO SUN-TIMES “Burris: ‘I am now the Junior Senator’”

Harry Reid has it right (Breitbar tv: Harry Reid cites ‘Legal Authority’), but for the wrong reasons…. This situation varies from SCOTUS decision that everyone is touting (Adam Clayton Powell)…. This is an issue of the “Appointment” not having been properly “Certified” at the State of IL level by the IL SOS and the MN (Franken seat) which was also NOT yet Officially/Legally Certified by the MN SOS they would prefer to rush into the Senate….

Moe Lane’s thread (RS: Reid and the Franken seat) points out how Reid was dissuaded from rushing to seat Franken… shame we stopped him… it is their desire to rush Franken into the Senate (before that Race is Officially certified) that points out the hypocrisy and blatant POLITICAL nature of how Reid is picking his stands!

The US Senate (Harry Reid) DOES HAVE AN ISSUE/POINT….. Since the Secretary of State of the State of Illinois has not yet “certified” the appointment, then this is still an issue of the State of IL! But it is ONLY on that point they are correct. We have heard endlessly how the Democrats (the Madigan Liberal clique, of which Blago is not part) is opposing this pick (really, any Blago pick of course) and that the SOS of IL was/is on board with their UnConstitutional (IL Constitution and IL Law, let alone US Law/Constitution) attempts to prevent Burris from taking the seat….

We KNOW that Harry Reid does not give a darn about this as a State Right issue….. Reid, and the others, will be more than Happy to Welcome (well, happy it’s a Liberal/Democrat, not that it is this particular clown being) Al Franken to the US Senate …. the game will be CLEARLY up when/if they do indeed do so before the MN SOS certifies the Election…. Further, whether MN Dem’s push to have it certified before the REQUIRED 7 DAY PERIOD allowing Coleman to File Official Challenge (Contesting the Election) and the 25 Districts that have more votes than those checked in to vote there issues…..

All I am saying is that we be clear in this issue, that Reid may be denying him PROPERLY if the State of IL has not got its act together. Burris can/will/should File suit against the IL SOS for not “certifying the appointment” as required by IL law…. The IL SOS (from my understanding) does NOT have any choice in this matter but to certify whether the “appointee” meets Constitutional and/or other IL legal requirements to be a US Senator (and Burris does) PERIOD. but until he is actually certified by the State of IL SOS his “credentials” are indeed NOT IN ORDER and he can/should be barred from the US Senate….

Again, we all know this is a sham, and the Franken admittance ASAP would further expose that but we must keep our discussions/arguments to be Factual and Complete.

Don’t get me wrong… we certainly want to keep the issue in the fore-front…. These fools need to be continually called on this hypocrisy….

Once the IL SOS signs off on this appointment, there is ZERO grounds to block Burris from the US Senate!

If further is wonderful that Bobby Rush is trying to portray this as “RACIST” or a “Racial” issue….. how hilarious….. There is only one group LIBERAL DEMOCRATS that have to interject Race where it has absolutely NO PART. This has nothing to do with the Race or Party even, it has to do with Legal Authority and the Constitution at both the State and Federal levels!

More discussion on this particular aspect (the Jan. 6, 2009 Burris to the Senate) in Moe Lane’s Burris festivities blog.

Alive And Kicking

With the ouster of William “In His Freezer” Jefferson and the capture of another House seat in Louisiana, the Republican Party shows that it is anything but a spent force. Congratulations go out to Joseph Cao, the first Vietnamese-American to have been elected to Congress, and John Fleming, who beat Obama-backed Paul Carmouche. Jefferson’s loss is, of course, a blow against the kind of corruption that Nancy Pelosi and the House Democratic leadership did rather little to counteract. But it and the Fleming victory also represent the continued GOP resurgence that we have seen in Louisiana since the election of Bobby Jindal as Governor.

This is yet more evidence as well that Barack Obama’s coattails are rather short. Obama-backers will argue, of course, that the President-elect didn’t do all that much to involve himself in these races, or, for that matter, in the runoff race for the U.S. Senate seat in Georgia that was held by an overwhelming margin by Republicans. Perhaps the President-elect might have done more, but perhaps his lack of involvement is a sign that he knows his persuasive power on the campaign trail on behalf of others is somewhat more limited than many once thought.
