Morning Rush Hour - Went Great, No Spilled Coffee

We had an uneventful (as in peaceful) sign-waving this morning just a few miles shy of tony Princeton, NJ. Where we were is much more private industry territory than non-profit/government territory. No Obama folks showed up.

Great friendly response from our folks (all the usual various demographics), but more quiet “thumbs up” signs and broad smiles then on Friday’s rush hour. What was nice was what I would call, the “Monday Morning Surprise.” *The folks on our side who honked their horns, fist-pumped, etc. REALLY got into it. I think this because they were surprised to see some Republicans and McCain supporters out there on a chilly Monday morning actually campaigning for their candidate. *Warmed my heart and toes considerably. Wish we could have stayed out there longer, but we had to go to work.

Folks, don’t “think about it”, don’t just sit at home or your job wishing you had the gumption to do something about the election. Just Do It and Do It Now. It is looking good out there, we just have to help move the ball forward.

John McCain and Sarah Palin deserve even the littlest bit of time and effort YOU can give them. When I think of what McCain went through in Vietnam, I shudder. When I think of what the Media and the Dems did to Sarah Palin and particularly her Family, I get disgusted and angry.

DON’T LEAVE IT TO SOMEONE ELSE. PULL YOUR OWN WEIGHT. THAT IS THE CONSERVATIVE AND REPUBLICAN WAY. WE’RE GONNA WIN IF YOU HELP YOURSELF.Best, Alvin Bovay in Urban America

Signs, a Hockey Player and Two Sad Obama Sign holders

Work Hard and Smart and We Can and We Will Win! (With a little help from our friends.)

I’ll be quick as I have to be up in six hours to be out with signs one more time for morning rush hour and before work.

*We hit a good Republican (but lot of Dems) area here in central NJ for nearly four hours today on a busy suburban road/intersection. *Good day that got even better a few hours in, when the County Dems dropped off two flunkies (one middle-aged white guy and an African American woman) to give us competition. They had just the yard signs, with no handles or backing. Not professional (ie. Home Depot) outfitted signs like us.

All was cordial for the most part until the Obama woman yelled that “McCain is a racist” (we ignored her) and he started yelling that we were being paid $5.00 an hour to be out here. Our Joe, told him that “We’re Volunteers. We did this on our own” The Dem guy’s jaw dropped. He refused to believe it. Now, us being Republicans, if we did it for money… it wouldn’t be %5.00 per hour. (I guess that is the homeless rate the Dems pay on Election Day?)
Well, they lasted nearly an hour until a young college aged Republican (and hockey player) showed up with an Obama sign. He snuck in behind me and the Obama folks started going crazy cheering and thinking he was one of them. I thought so to for a moment. Then he says, “Watch this.” He holds up the sign, the Obama woman yells “yeah, another Obama!” The Hockey Player, says, “No, you know what this is? It isn’t a sign, it’s a garbage bag!” He then turns the Obama sign inside out and the Obama folks get sullen. He then yell “Hey watch!” He spits his tobacco chew in it. While this was not what I would have done, but I don’t chew tobacco… it was very funny. Long story short, the Obama folks (after more yelling at the Hockey Player) left. We sang, “na-na-na-nay, na-na-na-nay, hey-hey-hey… GoodBye” to them as they walked off. Quite funny stuff.

I did notice a returning phenomenon though. When they were there on the other corners, it INCREASED the response WE GOT from drivers a lot. Almost like a bullfighter with a red cloth. It really got our folks to honk and wave, etc. to us with the M-P signs. We even ran out of ALL our bumper stickers. Good stuff. Definitely an inverse reaction for the Dems.

Also, still a lot of quiet folks with thumbs-up or waves. They will be our SILENT MAJORITY on Tuesday for sure. And again, a good number of African Americans, Latinos and Asians supporting McCain-Palin, which should surprise the Dems.

It is looking better than we are being told, folks. Let’s work hard to get the word out.

As Todd Beamer said, “LET’S ROLL!”

The Letter to the Editor My Local Paper Never Printed

I know this is a common story...

Below is the original version of my Letter to the Editor sent to my local paper nearly two weeks ago. They had me reduce it my eighty-three words and then (on the phone) confirmed they got it and all was good. Today was the last day of “Election Letters” to run in the paper. Of course, two Anti-McCain/Palin letters and one Anti-Republican letter ran along with some general local issue letters. NO anti-Obama or Pro-McCain letters ran.

I am posting this, because I believe so much in my points. That and the fact that WE’RE GONNA WIN!!

Dear Editor:

Leadership is measured and tested by many things. One’s reaction to a tough situation, forward thinking and action which others around you may disagree with or simply removing yourself from a situation when you know staying offers support to someone else’s wrong deeds. Senator Barack Obama has failed all of these tests.

Throughout his campaign and his career since Harvard and Columbia, he has never showed leadership of the kind Americans expect of their President. He voted “present” on tough Illinois Senate votes so he would leave no track record for an opponent to find. He talks of speaking out against the Iraq War as if he was Nelson Mandela taking on the apartheid government of South Africa. He did so from the safety of a State Senate office, from which he had to make no decision on whether to send troops like my brother to war.

Bruce Springsteen ain’t from the Jersey I saw today!

Yo Bruce, move back to LA... you're embarrassing us.

Sorry for triple-posting yesterday. Server errors kept coming up.

UPDATE: Well, Joe the Payroll Clerk, a female McCain supporter and I were out on Route 130 and Route 571 (for all you Jerseyphiles) for three hours this afternoon. This is a part of Mercer County that runs near NJ Turnpike Exit 8A (hold the jokes, people) and near the Monmouth County border (Springsteen’s native county). Plenty of shopping centers, diners and so on.

Well, this was the best outing yet. More car honking and smiles than we have gotten by far. My arms and hands actually starting getting sore from waving, thumbupping and holding the M-P sign. * *(I celebrated with a couple of Guinesses. Feel much better now.) * While the shift started off slow, after we and the traffic got warmed up… we continually got honks, etc. As one light changed, the next set of cars would come and make us quite happy. While I expected decent response, the amount and level and enthusiasm was shocking. Cars, trucks, motorcycle riders (9 out of 10 are for McCain), Cops, Fed Ex drivers. I wish our County GOP Chair could have been out there to see it. *But, then again I like to go guerilla style without official permission.

*Folks, the O-B’s are in trouble. * If we are a suburban stronghold of the Peoples Republic of New Jersey and getting this response, Mr. Springsteen, the Media and the Dems are indeed misreading the tea leaves. Every demographic group you can imagine was out there driving by and “showing the love” as Obama says.

SHOCK and AWE in Trenton, NJ

I love the smell of napalm in the morning...

Okay… here’s the situation. Cue in FRESH PRINCE MUSIC…
Don’t go on vacation yet, my fellow Republicans. It is looking and sounding pretty good out there. I’m certainly not forecasting a landslide, but if we keep working hard as hell… (Just having fun doing my miniscule part).

WE WILL WIN!

This morning, we did morning rush hour on a highway coming in and out of the State Capital, Trenton. *SHOCK and AWE *is the best description. We only had an hour between daybreak and having to zip off to work ourselves, but the results were fun and astounding. (BTW, Mr. McGreevey, your dumb cell phone ban isn’t working).

Plenty of honks, waves & thumbs up after the SHOCK from our bleary-eyed fellow travelers after seeing McCain-Palin signs (let alone with people attached to them) while on their way to work. (I love it when that happens). You can see their slow smiles grow as they see someone like them, believing like them “out there.” Lots of great truckers (boy, I love their horns) and this being a city where State Workers rule the roost, there were mucho quiet nods and mini-thumb ups. (Can’t show think for yourself in the State Capital). Actually, where we were is also busy with private industry from NJ and PA.

*AWE came about *when the Obama folks saw us with the McCain-Palin signs and said “AWWWW…. S—! They didn’t come into Trenton. Did they? They’re not supposed to be here. Obama can’t lose… can he?” ; )

At last… some Competition! Sort of…

Thank you for all the Undecideds, O-B man!

Well tonight, we hit a new intersection near one of NJ’s busiest train stations. Went very well and got even better once competition arrived. Here’s why:

We started at 5 PM. About 5:50 PM (it was still light out), two twenty-somethings in hoodies and track pants show up across the six lane intersection. One of them has an Obama-Biden sign and is running from back and forth from each side of the corner as the light changes. I’ll give the guy credit, he was quite energetic (think Mick Jagger in the late 60s). *Well, after about 10-15 minutes, he started yelling “Obama”, “Obama- he likes you, he likes your mama” (I kid you not) for pretty much the next two hours. * He also pranced around cojoling the passing cars/trucks/buses to honk at him and his sign.

Well, my buddy and I do our usual thing… being Republicans. We keep our dignity, respectfully wave, give thumbs up signs and move from side to side as the lights change. All goes well. Meanwhile, the O-B guy starts getting more and more wound up (I think he might have had some pharmaceutical help as he buddy just talked on his cell phone the whole time). The O-B guy starts yelling across to us, that he will outlast us just like Obama and that we have ugly signs. Yeah.

We decided that we would outlast the annoying fellow. We made it an extra 90 minutes and as we’ll be out Halloween morn at rush hour, we called it a night.

Best part is, as he got more and more annoying to us and more and more obnoxious to all the drivers… we got even more support (thumbs up, waves, honks) as the night went on. I just know this O-B guy single-handedly drove a bunch of undecideds to McCain.

How much for your McCain-Palin Sign?

Some Positivity for a Thursday morning.

Just wanted to post a couple positive stories for this morning.

*Last night, we went back out with our McCain-Palin signs on the busiest highway in the County. * Great response overall for a cold, dank Wednesday evening rush hour (5:15 PM - 7:00 PM). Lots of enthusiasm from our side, less one fingered salutes from the other side than normal.

  1. About half-way through, a White Chevy pulls up with some 50ish Indian gentleman. They were trying to shout something to me just before the light changed. The light changes and they quickly pull closer to me, blocking their lane for a moment. I thought they might need directions or something, so I said “Hey, how are you?” One of the men yells, “How much do you want for your sign?” Made my night! ; ) Not wanting them to get rear-ended, I told them to go to McCain’s website. BIG Thumbs-up!

  2. Just after dark and a very long light, a woman drives by making a left turn. I’m standing on the corner to her left. She rolls down the window and yells, “Move closer to the streetlight… so We can see you better!” I appreciated the suggestion and promptly moved. Increased car honking by 50%.

We’ll be out on a different road tonight, tomorrow morning’s rush hour and then the Weekend. How’s everyone else making out?

Have a great day. We’re gonna Win.

Does Obama want to raise taxes on $250K, $200K or Biden’s $150K households?

His Infomercial was like a bad Cialis commercial.

I watched B.Obama’s infomercial tonight before the my glorious Fightin’ Phils won the World Series. Hallelujah! Outside of the urge to put on anything else for thirty minutes, I made some notes. BTW, can we have a law against voter’s personal struggle stories? I have a torn miniscus in my knee like the guy in the first “story.” I’m not asking for fundamental changes to our healthcare system!

1. Was the opening music for the piece (I believe Steven Spielberg worked on part of this for the DNC) from SAVING PRIVATE RYAN? If so, I am really sad and disgusted. One of my favorite films.

*2. * Outside of the elderly African American couple struggling with healthcare costs, barely anyone of color outside of the Obama family was featured. Except for the one fella in the photo who worked at the auto plant in KY, no one else was really noted. (The Obama campaign has played down the fact that he is black and he has taken a hit for this with most Black intellectuals and opinion makers. Not on MSM programs.) Yes, there was the nice Latino teacher, but that was it. Completely disingenuous and a slight towards the African-American community, IMHO.

**3. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, didn’t B.Obama say in the program and with a graphic that he is now only going to raise taxes on people making over $200,000? First, $250,000 from Obama, then $150,000 from Biden. Now $200,000. What was that? A compromise between the two of them?
I’d sure like to know.

Romney’s Foot Soldiers… What a Surprise?

"Yeah, that's right Senator... I'm a... buffer" - THE GODFATHER- PART II

On the Positive: WE ARE GONNA WIN. I’VE GOT MY COPY OF “WE WILL ROCK YOU/WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS” cued up for November 5th. Otherwise…

Reading about *Romney’s surrogates *(ie. foot soldiers, “buffers”) trashing Palin since before she was announced ain’t no surprise to this CPACer. At the 2007 CPAC (the Conservative Political Action Conference, just in case), Romney’s folks were spreading more falsehoods and putting flyers on chairs than Carter has pills.

I found such a flyer on a chair at seminar that ABSOLUTELY TRASHED Rudy Giuliani. One of its major claims was that Rudy was LYING about reducing Crime in NYC while he was Mayor. As one who routinely would have to avoid urine-stained homeless men while getting in and out of Penn Railroad Station, I can tell you that after 1994 - this didn’t happen.

Romney’s boys also were trying to flatten Huckabee as a tax and spender and secret supporter of Gay Marraige. Neither of which, was true. About the only possible or declared candidate they didn’t go near was Newt. That would have been suicide.

New Adventure w/Signs on the Road, This time with Latinos & South Asians

Woke Up this Morning and Got Myself an Epiphany

Folks, thanks to those reading my first post last night. It felt great.

Today, we were out for three hours in the morning at one of the busiest suburban intersections in the county. Plenty more car honkers, thumbs uppers, some early morning dirty looks from Obamatons and informing one gentleman heckler that he’ll need a bottle of whiskey on November 5th. (He started it by calling us losers and that the old man was “going down and we don’t have a prayer”). One of his female Comrades said that we “were wasting our time.” These were the only two knuckleheads of the day. Sure, we had some thumb-downs, but they mostly drove Volvos and Saabs. What do I know?

Seriously, I have learned a lot over the past week or so being out there with McCain signs. First, there are a lot more of us out there then WE even know. If McCain wins, you will here the incantation of the Silent Majority going forward as much as you hear Bradley Effect.

Secondly, our side in this election is a quite varied group. Not just traditional or shall I say, “stereotypical” Republican or even Republican. We have seen all economic levels, (judged by vehicle driven, dress of the driver), demographics (young, old, male, female, majority/minority), and level of passion (quiet support -”the nod”, enthusiastic, but not showy (the wave or thumbs-up), the hot dang, am I glad to see you! (the car honk/thumbs up/fist pump) and the I’ll be at the polls at 6 AM type (screaming pleasantries and references to our opponents relationship to the Anti-Christ, though with a smile).

Republicans… Help Yourselves

If you do, we will win.

Long-time reader, first-time blogger. We can win, if we try. And get off our butts. I live in the People’s Republic of New Jersey. HEAVILY Democratic county. Two buddies and I have been going out over the past week or so with *McCain-Palin signs *stapled to wood 1″x2″s from Home Depot ($3.00 total) and going out to busy intersections at rush hours and shopping days (Sat and Sun). No one official asked us to do it, we just did it. The results have been wonderful. There are hardly any McCain signs in NJ, but the support is there. Just latent and a bit afraid to peek its head out. It has been liberating!

We have gotten thousands of thumbs-ups, fist-pump, car honks, you name. People want to see the flag flown unabashadly for our nominee and our Party. Here in NJ, the media (local and national) have done a great job making our side afraid to show their supporting McCain. If you do, you must be one of “the racists.” Well, I’m not and the party I know isn’t. Some of the comments we have gotten are great. “Glad to see someone is fighting,” “I want a sign, where do I get one.” “You made my day!”, “I’m tired of the media telling me I’m just against Obama.” The smiles alone are worth being out there, today in the rain for example. But, we have given some good NJ folks some hope. I’m not expecting McCain to win Jersey at this point, but we won’t go down without swinging. That is for sure.
